River Safari
A Classic Journey – An Unforgettable Adventure

I have a very interesting idea for a Christmas present for someone special !!
Pol O Conghaile spent a day with Charlie Horan, and in his recent article 'Secret Ireland - The River Barrow' - Irish Independent Weekend (Sat 23/11/11)
I took in "rapids and venetian views." "but still feel like a frontiersman"
"After shooting our first weir we paddle south towards Borris, spying a stately Heron, a zipping Kingfisher and two leaping Salmon."
"The river alternates between open fields and tight channels where autumnal Oaks lean over the water as if trying to touch us"
You're on a journey with someone very close to you. You are both sharing a Canadian canoe. As you travel through a tranquil wooded valley the old Oaks, Beeches and Chesnuts reach out across the water to whisper in your ear a tale of travelers gone by. Then you wake. Your still in the canoe but the instructor wants to show you the secret entrance to an early famine church and tell you the true story of Arthur McMorrough. No ledgend .... Arthur, although born without arms or legs ventured on horseback to Northern India where he ended up for two years in the care of a Royal Harem.....Lucky man, maybe, but wait ..... the instructor is calling.

Go with the Flow specialise in river adventures that have been endorsed by just about everyone over the last 15 years. The Barrow is a fun river, the path of a 1000 stories, full of laughter as you shoot the weirs and ride the rapids and you will feel a very special connection with nature. Full of wildlife, birds, jumping fish and animals of all description. The Barrow is a classic journey of discovery and no better way to explore it than with the experienced and qualified guide - Charlie Horan. You will hear all the stories shoot all the weirs and your cares will float away.
As we pass by the old lock keepers cottages you will be reminded of a time gone by when the old Guinness Barges navigated their way from village to village along this route. And as Charlie will tell you many a barrel arrived a couple of pints lighter than when it left James gate. We will probably stop by Ballykeenan rapids and have a Truly Irish lunch (provided) and watch the ducks have theirs in between the rocky pools.

At the end of a perfect day on the beautiful Barrow we paddle into historic Graignamanagh. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Our groups are great craic and it’s wonderful that all ages can safely participate. Even though most have never been in an open Canoe before it doesn’t matter. The instructors are brilliant with the younger ones especially and supply everything needed. And the stories ...... well who would have thought that it all happened here along the Barrow.
Enjoy a full day safari with double the stories, twice the craic and as many weirs as you can shake a stick at.
And remember ......
